    Description

This patch is very cool and very old.  I am told it is from the 1950s.  I have ended up with quite a few of these and will be listing each one of them individually.  The basic material is clearly felt.  The design almost seems like a type of art paint or something...but of those that I have multiple patches of...they are the same design...so there must have been some way of "printing" (for lack of a better word) the paint onto the felt to make these very, very cool patches.  Even though I ran into a large number of them...I do not believe they are common at all as I have sold tens of thousands of patches and have rarely ever run across any made like this, except for those I got from the same source.

I received a helpful email from another eBayer that may shed some light on the history of these unusual and fabulous pieces.  I am simply adding the contents of the email below:
"Hi - This item - and the similar ones you have on your website - are likely blank felt samples of jacket crests that were prepared by the manufacturer who likely made felt pennants as well. All appears to be Canadian in origin. The pre-cut pre-printed (image /with trim) were stencilled below an open 'window' where the name of the community/tourist attraction would be applied. I have a few somewhat similar items in hand - complete with the town name printed on same. It's likely potential customers could look at the samples, pick one and have a certain number produced for re-sale in their stores. When pennants were made in earlier years (ca. pre-1950s) the spray on was done very carefully, whereas in later years the images and text seem blobby and hastily applied. By that time frame pennants weren't as heavily in demand (i.e. picked up as proof you travelled somewhere) and I feel that the manufacturing standards had slipped a lot. Too bad the 'jacket crests' don't have community names - ;o( as they are in an unfinished state."
The above has been quoted with permission.  Enjoy this wonderful piece of history...they are beautiful.
